Wheeeee

These last few weeks have been an emotional roller-coaster complete with juggling flaming batons and scimitars while walking a tight-rope. Exams have started, so the anxiety level has RISEN (it's alive!). Surgeries are in full swing, basically one right after another; closing out one procedure opens the door for the next one. Did I invite you in? Hmm. Many people in class are clearly stressed out themselves, and tensions are running high. Snarky comments are made and the purple passive-aggressive monster comes out to play. I got a package today! Thanks sweetie :). I can now replace bandage scissors that I lost, and can stare into the depths of dogs' or cats' eyes...with a penlight.  Vic has started looking at places to live, so that is exciting. I go back and forth about whether we NEED a washer and dryer. After all, he's been doing laundry at the laundr-o-mat for over a year now. I'm excited Halloween will be here soon, but sad I can't really do much here. The countdown continues - I believe tomorrow is 9 weeks left! Soon, soon.

Whew!

Holy moly Batman, I have been busy! Last week was my emergency rotation, and we had a fair number of animals and cases to take care of. I'm still catching up on sleep. This week, I've had bovine palpation, where I got to feel a baby! It was pretty cool, and felt like bouncing a basketball in water. Then, I had a physical exam for my spay patient. Tomorrow, I have the skin incision procedure on our sheep, and then Friday I get to prepare for next week's rotation (Clinical Pathology) by checking out some slides and cases for labwork.

Cool stuff

Today was the first day of my first rotation.  I am starting with Theriogenology, which is basically reproduction. Today, I got to collect samples from both male and female dogs!  I thought it was really cool! I also found out today what my grand-rounds presentation will be. I am in a group of 6 people, and we will be presenting: Anesthesia of Elephants!! How awesome is that?! I have my emergency rotation next week, and I am both anxious and excited for it.  Well, I suppose I should study a bit. :)

Beginning of the End

7th Semester has begun! My break was really good, just way too short like always.  I got to see Ribbon and Bow. We took Bow to the dog park, which was kinda boring until someone else showed up. I made lasagna and roast while home, yummy. My flight back was pretty uneventful which is good.  I was able to deposit my refund check today, so I get to eat soon! Yippee! We officially have 98 days left on the Rock, or 14 weeks. My last day is 12-12-12 so it seems significant. We are choosing our clinical placements starting Wednesday, show we should know next week where I'll end up.  Hopefully it will be A&M so Vic and I don't have to move everything.  My other 2 choices were Colorado and Wisconsin.  First day was alright - a little intimidating, but that's to be expected.  The professors are all pretty funny and laid back. I think they figure that we've made it this far, lets finally have some fun!

7th Semester!!!

Woohoo!! Grades came up today and it's official - I am now a 7th semester student! The light at the end of the tunnel is REAL. I've been home since Thursday and am having so much fun :). I'm hanging out with Ribbon and Bow as well. Friday and Saturday were spent celebrating on 6th street in Austin! Had a fabulous time with Vic and K, C, and J. To top it off, there's an episode on Travel channel that is all about bacon...mmm bacon.

Single digits!

Only 9 days before I head home for my last 'between-semesters' break.  I'll be home for 2 weeks and then its back to the Rock for my 7th and final semester on the island!  Of course, there are 4 finals between me and home...PMJ (Practice Management & Jurisprudence) is Thursday this week, Small Animal Medicine is Monday, Small Animal Surgery is Tuesday, and Large Animal Medicine is Wednesday.  I fly out Wednesday, have an overnight and will be home with the hubby on Thursday morning.  Whew! Sounds like a lot :).  Gonna have to stock up on brain food...
